Role at Capsule: Chief Nursing Officer

Degrees & Certifications: RN, ADN; BSN – University of Missouri; MHA – Saint Louis University

First Job in Nursing: Staff nurse at Christian Hospital BJC HealthCare.

Who/what inspired you to become a nurse? My grandfather was gravely ill, battling lung cancer when I was a pre-teen. I felt helpless, desperate to know what to do and what to say as he suffered during the stressful remaining months. This experience inspired me to be knowledgeable about the human body, illness and generally, healthcare. I vowed to be an advocate to those who need a voice and nursing was that fit.

Most people don’t know that I: Am an avid and passionate mountain biker.

One thing I want to learn: To play the piano.

If I had more time, I’d: Dust off the brushes & easel and paint again.

Who/what inspired you to become a nurse? Actually, I did not have a noble calling to be a nurse. Fresh out of high school I knew I could be a RN in 2 years and make decent money in rural Eastern Kentucky.

Which care environment(s) of the hospital did you most enjoy working? Labor and delivery, it was usually a great experience and the families remembered me for years to come.

If you had one superpower, what would it be? I would love to just pass by any location and it would instantly become clean and beautiful again, I would just travel the world making it beautiful everywhere and wave to the crowds.

What is the most rewarding part of being a nurse – to you? Fixing problems, Macgyvering things.

What is the biggest adventure you have ever been on? Life is an everyday adventure. I like being out in the middle of nowhere in a forest or foreign country.
